The Sun Hotel is a sixteenth century coaching inn with comfortable rooms located in the historic market town of Hitchin.
The Sun Hotel Hitchin is a traditional coaching inn, originally dating from at least 1575. It rose to prominence in 1741 when the local Kershaw family set up a postal service between Hitchin and London. It then became a target for highwaymen, and in 1772 it was robbed by three of them. Today, the hotel welcomes locals, travellers and business people alike, offering a hospitable bar-restaurant and a comfortable place to stay and explore the historical market town of Hitchin. Each guestroom contains a television, tea and coffee making facilities, and a modern private bathroom with a hairdryer as standard. Complimentary wireless internet is available throughout the property. There is free parking at the rear. The restaurant and bar area serves an excellent traditional menu, while the tasteful Cromwell Bar provides a lively atmosphere and a selection of cask ales, lagers and fine wines. It also hosts the award-winning Hitchin Folk Club every Sunday evening.
