Fairy Knowe Hotel

The Fairy Knowe Hotel, affectionately referred to as the grand dame of Wilderness, has been welcoming guests since 1924. This landmark hotel was renovated in 2021 and is looking gracious and glorious once again.

A 20 minute drive from George airport and central to all tourist attractions. The perfect base from which to explore the Garden Route, it’ has pristine beaches, indigenous forests, lakes, world class golf courses, organic farmers markets, amazing water activities, hang gliding, shark cage diving, hiking trails and fantastic birding opportunities all within a radius of 30 to 50 km. Situated on the banks of the Touw River, the hotel forms part of the greater Wilderness Nature Reserve and Estuary. Wilderness is one of only five documented areas in the world that has, within a five kilometer radius, sea, land, rivers, lakes and mountain ranges.

The hotel is a birders paradise with over 280 species to be found here, of which the Knysna Loerie is a regular visitor.

Uncomplicated and old worldly, the hotel offers basic, clean accommodation with breath taking river views. The value for money room rates include a 5 star buffet breakfast in the new Amare Vita Restaurant between 7am and 10am daily.

Our colourful new restaurant is the ideal location to relax and enjoy a scrumptious buffet breakfast, a light lunch or a delicious 3 course dinner. Sit on the deck and get swept away by our beautiful new gardens and water pond with frogs singing the night away.

We offer traditional high teas for groups of 6 or more, pensioners lunch on Tuesdays and scones and tea daily. Ideal venue for birthdays, year end functions and special occasions.
