This beautiful, privately owned Country House Hotel is set within 5 acres of delightful landscaped gardens within the historic village of St Michael's, just a short walk from the magnificent St Albans Abbey. The manor has been in... More About St Michael's Manor the Newling Ward family for over 40 years. The original manor house was built on medieval foundations for the Gape family around 1512. The site of the family's tannery business was discovered at the bottom of the lake during the drought of 1976. Throughout the centuries the manor has been harmoniously altered and extended, always retaining the character and architectural detail of the original building. Each of the 30 bedrooms have been individually designed and supplied with books, games and magazines. Many of the bedrooms overlook the hotel's sweeping lawns, award-winning grounds and rich wildlife activity on the lake beyond. The award-winning restaurant and conservatory also overlook the gardens and lake, where you can enjoy freshly prepared modem British cuisine at lunch or dinner. Among the many sumptuous dishes on offer you can choose from seared foie gras with vanilla, apple and ginger brioche, poached sea bass with truffle potatoes, baby leeks and sauce Genevoise, and for dessert Lime leaf and lemongrass crème brûlée with shortbread biscuits.
