This prosperous and handsome city enjoys a strategic position in the centre of Scotland, and sits astride the River Tay, overlooked by wooded hills. In medieval times, Perth was the capital of Scotland. Notable features include 15th Century St John's Kirk, fine Georgian terraces, two large parks known as the North and South Inches, and some of the country's best galleries, museums and shopping. The "Old Perth Trail" guides pedestrians around the flower-bedecked streets - Perth has twice recently won the "Britain in Bloom " title.
