One of the Trust's most interesting historical buildings
The spirit of Sir Francis Drake is rekindled at his home with exhibitions of his courageous adventures and achievements throughout the world. One of the Trust's most interesting historical buildings and originally a 13th century monastery, the abbey was transformed into a family residence before Sir Francis bought it in 1581. Fascinating new decorated plaster ceiling in Tudor Drake Chamber. Outside there are monastic farm buildings, herb garden, craft workshops and country walks. Introductory video presentation. Opening Times: 27 Mar - 31 Oct: daily except Thur, 10.30am - 5.30pm (last adm. 4.45pm). 1 Nov - end Dec: Sat & Sun, 2 - 5pm, (last adm. 4.15pm). Other days for pre-booked groups.
