Often threatened, never taken, this vastly impressive castle is much the biggest in Wales. `Red Gilbert' de Clare, Anglo-Norman Lord of Glamorgan, flooded a valley to create the 30 acre lake, setting his fortress on 3 artificial islands. Famous for its leaning tower, its fortifications are scarcely rivalled in Europe. Opening Times: Mar - Oct: daily, 9.30am - 6.30pm. Oct - Mar: Mon - Sat, 9.30am - 4pm. Suns, 11am - 4pm
